I've been talking with a fellow author is who going through an existential crisis right now. Unsure if he wants to continue writing because of the soul-crushing weight of being self-published. I hope in the end he will continue because he is a great author. One that I look up to as someone seemingly more accomplished than myself. But even if that last part isn't as true as I think it is, it doesn't matter to me.
The road to success is never easy and will always be bumpy and curvy. Please know that the overnight sensations don't happen overnight. They appear to happen because we only notice when they get a good manager, publicist, and or agent behind them. We don't notice the years behind them of ruined relationships and lost time spent slaving away to some internal calling to do something more with their lives. To do something that will have some lasting impact besides just having been alive. No one sees the time when they were younger and the time they weren't in the limelight or any sort of spotlight. No one sees the struggle. People only see the success.
This is my message for those who struggle, whether it be occasionally or day in and day out, to stay strong. Find a soft spot to lie down and rest your head when you find yourself in a hard place. Regain your energy and keep moving forward. For some of us that soft spot to lie down is a loved one who will listen, or a pet who cuddles the stress out of you, for others it is a break to do some traveling or a movie to watch. But whatever it might be for you, find that spot, that happy place and know it is there for you, unconditionally.
Nothing happens overnight and nothing worth having came easy. So keep at it and always move forward. But most of all, stay strong.
