Change Something

Weekly writing exercise in blog form. I guess that's why I am doing this. But whether it's the blog's I've been trying to do consistently, some inner motivation, external forces, a combination of the above, or some heretofore unseen variable, it seems to be working. I have written more on my next novel on the past week than in the past few months. And that's a good thing.

So I guess, in the end, when in a rut change something. Doesn't have to be a big thing like a drastic haircut or new wardrobe but change something. I scheduled one blog post a week and that has helped spur something in my mind to write more.

Change something. From the flavor of coffee you drink, to the shows you watch, books you read, or scheduling something that will disrupt the routine of your week until the disruptor becomes routine, change something.

I have also stopped listening to music with lyrics when I write. Yeah, I know, and anyone who knows me, knows that half the songs I sing, i sing the wrong lyrics to anyway. Because of that, I always listened to music with lyrics when I wrote. I didn't think it mattered. Now I am listening to 8 hour tracks by Calmed By Nature, ambient music by Bolt Gun or Mare Cognitum. Something in those makes it a lot easier to focus and write quality words.

But these changes would never had happened unless I changed something. Something small. So I did, and things seem to be improving. Don't get me wrong, I still listen to music with vocals, just not while writing. But change. Do something, anything to make a small change and see what big things might happen. But now, I have to pay attention to the black cat pawing at my side. Until next week, be good.
