I would like to welcome all the new members to my newsletter! Thank you so much for joining and I hope you enjoy. I have so much going on over the next month and so much cool stuff to share. I am using a new mailing service so if anything feels new, different, or whatnot, it might be my fault. That said, let's dive in.
A Vampire Named Allison is finally out! Aug. 26th was the official release date for the 4th and penultimate book in The West Haven Undead series. I am excited that I have already received two reviews for this book. While one of the reviews was my first three-star review, I am not hurt about it. This book is definitely one that ventures off the path of good guys fighting a bad guy. Dealing more with mental health issues of young adults, it is the most intimate portrayal of the characters to date. It is also my favorite in the series so far.
Forgive the cheesy mock-up graphic. I do these myself and it's what I got. But the response from readers has been more than I could have hoped for. I know that the publisher, Blind Cyclops Books was recently at Fan Expo in Chicago promoting and selling. So, if any of you happened to be there and snatch a copy, enjoy!
I have had a few readers ask if there are any plans to turn this into a screenplay. While that is not in the works right now, I can't say it's off the table. I think this would make a great flick loaded with everything that makes genre pieces stick in our minds long after the final frame has rolled.
Upcoming Events
The images below are my four upcoming shows between September and October. They are my four favorite shows of the year, and I am beyond excited for the next six weeks of my life!
Starting with Ancient City, I will be in St. Augustine enjoying the spotlight booth with a custom-made banner just for little ol' me. Very stoked. I also think I'll be right across from their celebrity tables which is always a blast. If you find yourself in the St. Augustine area Sept 13-15, make Ancient City Con a must.
After that show ends, I have a few days to recoup and get an oil change before heading down to West Palm Beach for Ultra Con! Another fantastic, multi-genre show that has grown exponentially in the past few years. Fun for the whole family, September 20-22.
After those two shows, I'll have one week to recover before diving headfirst into spooky season with Spookala at the Tampa Fairgrounds, October 4-6. This is the only show of the four that I will not have my full selection of merchandise as I will be concentrating on my books! This is another show whose growth has been exponential and as it's run by a great guy, he knows the vendors played no small part in that. The celebrity line up is killer with live music and shows to keep the energy up.
Last on my Sept/October tour is the big convention that started it all for me ... Spooky Empire. Without a doubt, I would not be where I am without having done this show. It never disappoints and, like the others, I look forward to it every year! So if you're in Orlando October 11-13, stop by and say hello!
Click any of the pictures below to check out their websites. (Also, any picture in the newsletter is also a link-I remembered this month)
After those shows, I am back to prepping for my November shows, which I will talk about more closer to then, but they are:
The Sorting Hat Celebration Nov 2
Sci Fi Pop Fest Nov 9
Maker's Faire Orlando Nov 9-10
I know that, as exciting as it is to run into Nick Savage in the wild, what you
really want is to know when my next book is coming. Well, I have finally passed the 70k word mark in the manuscript. That's about 2/3 where I need to be minimum and about 25-30k away from where I think it will end. Perhaps a little longer. I do not plan on turning the fifth and final The West Haven Undead novel into some epic work of 125k or more. But, as with all series, as they come to an end, some things must be resolved, and others must be explained. There is also a fine balance to making things happen enough to get the point across and not enough to have you read it and say, "Enough already!" Thus, writing is rewriting. And while I still have no solid title for it, I am narrowing it down, even if adding a few new ones along the way.
After I wrap up that series, I am going to be writing two books at once. Of course, World Whore, D is awaiting my return to the writer's chair and Finn Fairlane will be making a return as I pen Faith's side of the story. And yes, I have titles in mind already for the first in that series and it is as alliterative as the Finn's books.
I know I try to promote authors in the newsletter and this month I am going back to author Maria DeVivo. Having finally had a chance to read her book Witch of the Black Circle, I have firsthand insight into her works.
Ironically, I love all things spooky, but horror literature is generally not my jam. I did enjoy her work inspired by the Satanic Panic era of the 1980's. If you like horror with some spice, I recommend checking her out.
She has three series from horror to Angel Vs. Demons, and a Coal Elf thing. So, whatever your cup of tea, she has you covered.
Until next time,
Nick
